Praise the gods of makeovers and thank the heavens that Clint’s masculine office makeover is complete! This has been a looonnnggg time coming. Right when you enter our home the first thing you see is this bright room to the left. For the first 2 years of us living here that room acted as a storage room for all of our extra hobby crap (Clint’s archery, Clint’s rifle, my graveyard of furniture, etc.) and although I do have a great fondness for weaponry, it really was time we stop looking like the crazy neighbor who probably has a bomb shelter in their basement. We don’t…yet. 😉
This room was such a point of misery for me (a little of an over-exaggeration) because 1) it doesn’t have a door so all the world can see our crap and 2) I don’t like having crap around (not an over-exaggeration). Also, the beige wall color was gagging-face-emoticon. Not my fave. So the first think I did was pick paint. Hallelujah for Sherwin-Williams people (I am getting pretty religious in the post, I guess!). They saved the day with my absolute favorite gray: Mindful Gray. It’s fitting that I selected Mindful Gray because I was very mindful about the gray I selected. I painted (not joking) 12 gray swatches on my walls before I fell madly in love with Mindful Gray so you could say that I dated around. I painted swatches from several different paint brands but Sherwin-Williams was an obvious win for me. Painting only required 2 coats and the coverage was so even and vibrant that I declared Sherwin-Williams the Mr. Darcy of paint brands…a perfect gentleman. Too much? Never!
The first step was obviously to clear out the hoards of hideous recliners and grandma furniture, and in retrospect I wish I had taken a before picture of just how brimming the space was (in a bad way), but in the moment of excavation I was too embarrassed to break out the camera.
Whew that is better! My goal with this masculine office makeover was three parts. First, I wanted the space to be functional for all members of our family so that meant non-breakable items low and more fragile/vintage items up high. Liam and Charlotte LOVE playing with the typewriter and I’m like, “Just join the cast of Mad Men already”. Second, I wanted it to feel like a masculine enough office that Clint wouldn’t feel out of place. I mean I was replacing a crossbow with globes for crap sake so I had to add a heavy dose of manliness. Sometimes I spray the room with Abercrombie & Fitch cologne for good measure. (no, not really). Third, I needed somewhere to put all my books. After I took these pictures I added two more shelves worth of books. Did I mention I have a hoarding problem? No?
And of course the plants. I have lots of favorite parts of this office, but the super star that ties it all together is the plant details. Once again the people at Costa Farms really hooked me up! You see, we don’t have a minivan (YET) and packing large house plants home from the grocery store in a car with two little folks (I mean children) is like death. Costa Farms ships the plants to my front door because they know how to make a lady feel special. They also sent me all the plants for my office and Ah! I love them!
